NML U18 30.09.07
Old Crescent 12 Garryowen 18

The U18’s maintained their winning start to the season when they accounted for Old Crescent 18-12 in summer like conditions in Rosbrien on Sunday. Quality possession and straight running opened up the field of play in the first half to enable our boys build up an 18-0 half time lead. Captain Mike O Shea, until going off injured, carved open the home back line open on a number of occasions and is deserving of particular mention. Lorcan Lynch, Brian Moran and Carl Geoghegan each scored tries and full back James McGarry kicked a penalty. Debutant, Ian Whelan from Newbridge got a chance to show his potential and Cian O’ Shea, Alex Kennedy and Daragh Bonfil also displayed some nice touches. The hosts showed significant potential after the interval and using their pack, tested the light blues to the limit. Our front row earned their stripes withstanding intense pressure from the five metre line. They epitomised the true dogged nature of the team and an ability to stick to the task when the home side threw everything at them They did concede a try and eventually shipped a further seven points in the last play of the game. At times, heart and honesty can carry its own reward. On Sunday they compete in the Yelverton Tournament hosted by Shannon RFC in Coonagh at 12 noon.
