Match Report

Our 3rd XV suffered a 16 – 3 defeat at the hands of Shannon in the McInerney Cup Semi Final at Dooradoyle last Saturday. We were on the back foot for most of the match and failed to perform as we did against Crescent and Young Munster in the previous weeks. To make matters worse we lost Karl Tuffy after 2 minutes with a torn hamstring and to make matters worse Mike Kennedy shortly afterwards with a knee injury. We trailed early on from a Shannon penalty and our forwards never really came to grips with a much heavier pack. The little ball we got in the three-quarters was either knocked on or wasted and the Shannon defence kept us at bay throughout the game. A single penalty goal from Fergus Sheahan was our only score. Eugene Hanrahan was outstanding and never gave up and the young lads John Mark Griffin and Roy Sexton also had fine games.
