Appointment of Technical Director at Garryowen

Garryowen
FC are pleased to announce the appointment of Greig Oliver as Techincal Director
for the club. Greig will have responsibility for the technical and skills
development of all teams and coaches with particular emphasis on the
enhancement of the already successful Academy. The 2006/7 senior team which won
the Munster Senior Cup, AIB Cup and AIB League included no fewer than 11
players from the Dooradoyle
Academy. Greig was previously
Rugby Development Manager and National Academy Coach for Borders in Scotland. He
also held the position of National Academy Coach for Edinburgh.
He coached the Scotland U 20 squad in 2006/7 and Scotland U21 squad from
2003 to 2006. The Hawick club man was capped at Senior and U21 level for Scotland. He
represented Scotland
in two World Cups and also played for the Barbarians. His club Hawick were four
times Scottish National League Champions and 6 times Border League Champions. He
coached Hawick to win two BT Premierships in 2001 and 2002 and also the BT Cup
in 2002, following which he was voted Scottish Premiership Coach of the Year. Chairman
of Rugby Philip Danagher welcomed the news and reinforced the desire to
continue the development of the Club
Academy for which Tom Comyns
will continue as Strength and Agility Coach. Philip also made reference to the
innovative developments being carried out on the grounds and facilities at
Dooradoyle. Dara O’Sullivan and Ray Egan will take over the coaching reins for
the 1stXV from Paul Cunningham and Killian Keane.
