1st XV
Our seniors travel to Musgrave Park on Saturday to play Dolphin in the AIL at 2.30. The recent meeting resulted in a very narrow 13-12 win for the light blues. The Cork side felt they left the points behind them in Dooradoyle so we can expect a full throttle contest between the sides. We will be hoping injuries to key players will have cleared up come game time, but Ronan O'Mahony is definitely out for a number of weeks.
2nd XV
Our junior team were unceremoniously knocked out of the Munster Junior Cup by Muskerry RFC at a bright but very cold Dooradoyle last Sunday. The relative minnows were somewhat of an unknown quantity prior to the game and nothing short of a comfortable victory by the light blues was expected. However the County Cork team displayed fantastic commitment from the start and were full value for their 3-0 half time lead. Our cause wasn't helped by the dismissal of prop Ben Rowley after 30 minutes and thereafter we were always playing catch up. Alan Gaughan did manage an equaliser early in the second half but a similar effort put Muskerry 6-3 ahead. It now appeared that the shock of the round was very much on the cards. Gaughan again equalised with a 30 metre effort and even though we looked capable of breaching their line following excellent work by our valiant pack, the score just would not come. Gaughan was just wide with a 35 metre penalty from a wide angle in the 78th minute and this was to prove our last chance. A break out of defence by the Muskerry full back brought play deep into our half and when the visitors drove again, the referee was right on the spot to award the penalty for off-side at the ruck. It was the final kick of the game and as the ball sailed straight between the posts, the whistle sounded much to the delight of the Muskerry boys and supporters. Their 9-6 win was fully deserved and we can have no complaints about the outcome. We play Young Munster in the MSL in Tom Clifford Park on Sunday at 2.30.
U21
UL Bohemian proved too strong in the final 10 minutes to run out 27-11 winners in the AIL U21 in Dooradoyle last Saturday. Out half Derry O'Connor kicked a penalty and dropped a goal but tries from Darren Moroney and Mark Doyle 2, pushed the visitors lead out to 17-6 at the interval. It looked like curtains when Doyle completed his hat trick on 44 minutes but we fairly knuckled down to it after that. We put considerable pressure on their pack and reduced the deficit to 22-11 following a driving try by centre Mark Rowley in the corner. Another score might have set up an interesting finale but the Robins came again and Moroney hit the line at pace to score his second try and seal the 27-11 win. To stay in contention we need to beat Bruff in Killballyowen on Saturday at 1.00. This game has now been deferred to a later date.
3rdXV
Our Gleeson League team play Old Crescent, under lights, in Dooradoyle on Friday night at 7.30. Last Saturday they beat Young Munster 14-7 in a league game played in Crescent Comprehensive. Dave Pomeroy and Michael John O'Hurley were our try scorers and Michael Roberts kicked both conversions.
Under Age
The U14's beat St. Senan's 10- 3 in their NML game in Shannon last Sunday.
Facilities
Our all weather pitch is at an advanced stage and we are eagerly looking forward to it's completion. It promises to be a major addition to our sports facilities. The composition and quality of the surface is first class.
