Garryowen FC Notes w.e 24th Sept
2006
Last
weekend was relatively quiet on the playing field with our seniors travelling to
Temple Hill for a friendly against Cork Con. We again found ourselves 13 points
down but we composed ourselves and ran out deserving 16-13 winners. Frank
McKenna lined out at No 8 and it was his try, converted by Conor Kilroy, which
paved the way for success. As with games like these early in the season, there
was an element of shadow boxing but Paul Cunningham did have an opportunity to try out a number of options with the squad for the
sterner AIL tests ahead. Conor Kilroy also kicked three penalties. On
Saturday we welcome Youghal to Dooradoyle where the Munster Senior Cup gets
under way at 2.30.
Our Junior
team came back to earth with a bang when losing heavily away to Thomond in the
Transfield Cup. There was no doubting the Northsiders domination up front but
our boys are capable of a lot better than a 33-7 defeat. This Sunday they
entertain
Also on
Saturday, the U20’s finally make their long awaited appearance when they play UL
Bohs in the NM League at 4.15 in Dooradoyle. Traditionally strong clubs at this
level, the games between these two teams always live up to
expectations.
The under
age continues to prosper with age groups from 6 to 18 catered for on Sunday
mornings. The training sessions are at 10.00 for the boys and 11.00 for the
teenagers. Our U14’s went down narrowly 15-13 to UL Bohs at Annacotty last
Sunday. On Sunday the U18’s are away to UL Bohs at 11.30 while the U16’s welcome
Galwegians to Dooradoyle at 12.00. Earlier at 11.30, the U13’s are at home to
Bruff in the NM League.
