Our final game in the AIB League takes place on Saturday 19th April v UCD in Dooradoyle and only then will we know our semi final opponents. Next Sunday, our 3rdXV play Ballincollig in the Munster J2 semi final in Dooradoyle at 2.30. This is an excellent competition and the boys were going full tilt in training during the week. The U18’s captured the NM League with a fine performance over a brave and sporting Shannon team in Coonagh on Wednesday. Evan O’Callaghan opening the scoring, but it was Michael Horgan who put paid to the home side chances with a brace of tries. Andrew O’Byrne kicked a conversion to complete our scoring. Shannon did come back strongly to reduce the deficit to 12-3 in the second half but Horgan’s second try sealed the win. Shannon got a late consolation score but the game ended 17-8 to the light blues. Last weekend our U18’s went down 19-17 to Young Munster 17-19 in the NM Cup but there was better luck for the U13’s who edged Bruff 13-8. There were also friendly victories for our U15’s who beat London Irish 43 -21, while our U13’s beat Harpenden 31-17. At the other end of the spectrum our veterans toured the Treviso area and by all accounts had a memorable visit. On the playing field they did not accommodate their hosts and ended up winning 30-15. One thing is for certain, we can expect to see the Italians in Dooradoyle next year. The club would like to wish all the Shannon players and officials the very best of luck in Athlone on Saturday and hope they bring the AIB Cup back to Limerick Unfortunately; I must end my script on a sad note. The club has learned with regret of the recent passing of Patricia McQuaile, sister of former light blue Robert Kerbey. Patricia had been ill for some time but her demise at such a young age still came as a major shock to her family. None more so than her heartbroken brother, Rob, who during his playing days and indeed for many thereafter entertained so many with his fantastic singing and playing. The atmosphere he created was recalled many a time in the McQuaile and Kerbey homes and Patricia took great joy when discussing the nights of legendary songs and craic. Our sympathies to her family and friends at this difficult time.
