Garryowen FC Notes w.e. 10th February 2008
Following our late-late 12-10 win over Terenure College in the AIL, our seniors hit the road for the next four weeks. First up is our AIB Cup quarter final against Clontarf in Castle Avenue on Saturday at 4.30. Games between the two club have always proved exciting and we will be anxious to exact revenge for our league loss at Dooradoyle earlier in the season .On Sunday we play UL Bohemians in the Munster Junior Cup in Dooradoyle at 2.30. The team had a 38-24 win over Clonmel in a friendly last Saturday. Former light blues Neville Melbourne and Ronan Cross lined out for the Tipperary side and exchanges were keenly contested throughout. Niall O'Driscoll (2), Adam O'Loughlin, Shane Moloney,Damien Varley and Willie Staunton were the try scorers. Willie also added four conversions to complete our tally. Although we led 17-10 at half time against a well organised Galwegians team, our U20's had to settle for a share of the AIL spoils on the back pitch in Dooradoyle last Saturday. Man of the match Colm Downes scored two tries, both of which he converted and he also kicked a penalty. The team has improved steadily under the watchful eyes of Andrew Bermingham and Mark Fitzgerald. Our next AIL game is against Bruff at 12.00 on Saturday in Dooradoyle. UL Bohemians were no match for our 3rdXV who clocked up an impressive 43 points to nil scoreline in the McInerney Cup in Annacotty last Saturday. Dermot McInerney (2), Ger Sommers, Mark Hanrahan, Fergus Sheahan, Ross O'Neill and James Fanning all had tries. Sheahan also added four conversions. A commemorative mass for Mick Ryan will take place on Sunday at 10.30 in Roxboro School Church.
